Anger in Tourette’s is often misunderstood as bad behaviour or a personality flaw, when in reality it is frequently the result of an overloaded nervous system struggling to regulate emotional and physical tension. The same brain that works constantly to manage tics and impulses can, at times, reach a breaking point where frustration erupts suddenly and intensely.

In this episode, we explore why anger is so common in Tourette syndrome, how accumulated frustration and the effort of suppressing tics can build internal pressure, and what happens during sudden emotional outbursts. We also look at the neurological link between tics, irritability and stress, helping to explain why these reactions can feel so fast and overwhelming.

Finally, we discuss practical ways to manage anger without simply bottling it up, including recognising early warning signs, reducing stress and finding healthy outlets for intense energy. The aim is not to judge these reactions, but to understand where they come from and learn how to handle them in a safer, more constructive way.
