Tourette’s and Stress: Breaking the Cycle of Tension and Tics

Stress does not simply affect how we feel: it directly influences the nervous system and can significantly increase the frequency and intensity of tics. At the same time, the physical effort, social pressure and exhaustion caused by tics can generate even more stress, creating a cycle that is difficult to break.

In this episode, we explore the difference between acute and chronic stress, why the body releases accumulated tension through tics and why certain moments of the day can be particularly challenging. We also examine the importance of sleep, recovery, physical activity and regular breaks in helping the nervous system regain balance.

The aim is not to eliminate stress completely, but to recognise the warning signs, reduce unnecessary pressure and build habits that make everyday life with Tourette’s more manageable.
